In late 2005, Gundam SEED DESTINY finished its run as the second TV series set in the Cosmic Era timeline. In early 2006, Sunrise announced a new ONA set in the C.E. universe: Mobile Suit Gundam SEED C.E. 73 STARGAZER. Unlike the previous SEED series, the three episode STARGAZER is directed by Susumu Nishizawa. Also, SEED and DESTINY character animation director Kenichi Ohnuki takes over as character designer from Hisashi Hirai. Beginning during the same timeframe as DESTINY's "Break the World" incident, STARGAZER shifts its focus to a new set of characters: Sven Cal Bayang and Selene McGriff. Sven is a Natural from the Earth Alliance's secret Phantom Pain unit, and Selene is a Coordinator working for the Deep Space Survey and Development Organization's "GSX-401FW Stargazer Project." With only three short episodes, other pieces of STARGAZER's story can be found in the upcoming manga series, as well as in DELTA ASTRAY. The series aired online through the Bandai Channel and is available on DVD in Japan, but it hasn't been licensed for the U.S.
